“Music has always been a way for me to understand and process my emotions and connect with others whether it be silly, fun and lighthearted or more serious and complex, as well as simply expressing creativity and pent up energy! My sisters and I will burst out into 3 part harmonies at any moment, turning sounds from the world around us into songs and strange melodies due to our uncontrollable echolalia which we also get from our father! There is music in every facet of my life.”
Tegan started her journey with music by singing along to her favourite Queen and Outkast CD’s, vocal stimming to Weird Al Yankovic, Flight of the Concords and Tenacious D. Inevitably, she picked up her fathers (and HDC’s main sound engineer) many guitars that were laying around the house, and the journey picked up speed.
Next came solo gigs in small bars, cafes and festivals during a stint of living in Newcastle. Upon returning to her home town of Nowra she discovered the joys of making and sharing music with a band and is now one of our lead singers. She is also leading another big band Casuarina Light Phenomenon, that is already having festival success!
